A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train in Mundelein on Saturday afternoon, June 13, forcing the closure of several railroad crossings and tying up traffic across the village for hours.
What happened

- Where: 209 East Park Street, along Metra's North Central Service line between Chicago Avenue and Morris Avenue
- What: A pedestrian was hit by a Canadian National freight train and pinned underneath
Emergency crews found the victim unconscious and not breathing. Paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Crossings blocked, traffic rerouted
The crash halted the train across multiple grade crossings, blocking vehicle traffic at:
- Route 176
- Park Street
- Morris Avenue
- Hawley Street
The Mundelein Police Department urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes while crews worked the scene.

Investigation
The Lake County Coroner's Office took custody of the body, with an autopsy scheduled for Monday. The victim's identity has not been released.
The Mundelein Fire Department assisted at the scene, and the Canadian National Police Service is leading the investigation into the crash.
